Focus: intersection of design, engineering, and business

2020 IDSA IDEA Award Featured Finalist

My cohort & Capstone

As fate would have it, I landed a spot on the Purple team in the fall of 2017 and we began pursuit of our degree. The first year was grounded in interactive, theory-based courses. The second year we began 8 months exploring our capstone project, culminating in a 50 page business case and a final pitch to a room full of industry leaders and venture capitalists.

Collaborators

Aren Thompson | Engineer / Product Dev. Mgmt.

Diamond Greer | Strategy / Human Resources

Jordan Christiansen | Global Regulatory Affairs

Keith Dandridge | Industrial Design

Lessons Learned

Too many to summarize in 3 bullets so I’ll stick to the most notable: Seek partners with expertise to compliment your own and who have voices that equally challenge and support each other— I could not be more grateful for the group of individuals brought together through the random selection of purple team 2019.

CAPSTONE PROBLEM STATEMENT:

Imagine…

Pan fried salmon nested on a bed of warm corn salad with avocado, red onion and cherry tomatoes, topped with a drizzle of crema and fresh squeezed lime juice.

You made it (and you are justifiably proud).

You pop open Instagram to snap a pic to share with the world what YOU have made. But there are just some things that just won’t get shared…

DISHES.

They ARE THE WORST.

And a lot of people agree.

In fact, when we got to talking and observing, we uncovered just how terrible dishes are and just how detrimental they can be to one’s overall will to cook. Anybody else been there?

AND ABOUT THAT 50 page BUSINESS CASE…

Please don’t hesitate to ask for more details in person! We are still in pre-commercialization phase, and our team is currently pursuing potential industry partners to determine our best path forward.
